I caught up with another volunteer who travelled to Sydney few times to help Joy Kuo at the Mind Body Spirit Exhibition. One would have expected the interaction would have been formal – perhaps not.

Sonu explains some out of place behaviour, any victim of Narcissism would identify this with the “martyr & poor me” syndrome..

“Joy Kuo was always portraying to be a martyr. A Person who was sacrificing her personal time with family to volunteer.

Joy took every opportunity to project how hard she was working (under the guise of being a devotee only to fulfill her ambitions of being a famous healer) and how she never got time to sleep etc.”

From my years of experience, I could correlate some of the traits of Narcissists which was quite prominent in Joy and Sonu actually said exact sentences which were running in my mind..

“Joy was quite shrewd in commercially exploiting people, she tried to rope me in her Multilevel Marketing business (MLM) of selling some skincare products at my workplace. When I didn’t show any interest in that, she wanted me to buy free gifts from exotic shopping centres.”

While Sonu was sharing her experience, my own mind was recollecting so many events where Joy did use people for range of tasks. Sonu was elaborating similar experiences – though these sound like simple events but are huge Red Flags

“Joy had to complete 20 healing sessions after our Practitioners workshop to be a qualified practitioner. While I was in Sydney for work and she even used my hotel room to give healing sessions to my colleagues while I left my hotel room for 6/7 hours. Joy misused my hotel room fully to her disposal to complete the sessions without even asking me for any permission.”

I interjected Sonu and recollected some of the situations from the retreats we all attended, Sonu vividly recollected minute by minute account on Joy’s behaviour on how she recruited flying monkeys and arrogantly her mask used to slip off – the most annoying behaviour was to pitch people against each other!

“During one of the retreat in 2015 at Kawai PuraPura, one of the participant Valerie corrected Joy about her attitude towards others was inappropriate. Joy wanted to use me as her ‘flying monkey’ and criticise Valerie that she was side-lining others. Joy always used to put roadblocks and pitch people against each other”

As Sony highlighted so many red flags which went unnoticed at that time, I asked if she was aware of signs which led to such behaviour and snap came the answer

“Of course, devaluation started as she wanted to be the best and under the name of seva for our mentor, Joy made things difficult and complicated when it was a smooth flow.

Joy Kuo would often complain about Clarito to me and other volunteer and portray the poor chap in a bad light. Clarito used to work around the clock to support her and drove all the way from the city in Sydney to Central Coast and back while she slave drove him

My interaction would never complete without covering the famous Indian pilgrimage where all of us travelled to many temples in India. This was one of the rare opportunity as we were travelling with our mentor who explained about each of the temples and its important aspects. Sonu remembered every single event as if it happened just a day ago

“During India pilgrimage Joy made Clarito carry her luggage all the time and used him as a flying monkey to create discordance in the group dynamics as number of us were travelling to India for the first time.

Joy discredited Clarito for all his efforts and assisting her with her new ventures.

I was shocked when Clarito shared he wanted to leave our spiritual movement after returning back from India trip.”

Revenge is one common trait among many narcissists, their fear & inferior complex takes them to extreme length.

Sonu says..

“Like any typical Narcissist, Joy joined hands with another narc Iphigenie Amoutzias and targeting fellow volunteers like Sheree and Jabeen who eventually left, as Joy felt highly threatened by them both of these well qualified & highly educated individuals.

Both Sheree & Jabeen were young, attractive and a well-articulated speech which was the main reason Joy couldn’t stand them and had to get them out of her way.”

Joy Kuo’s sole ambition to be the face of our Spiritual movement and her highly domineering and meddling nature resulted in number of other volunteers in Sydney to leave.
